In 2026, Konami collaborated with the developers of the Japanese indie horror game "Urban Myth Dissolution Center". Together, they released a short free game featuring characters from Silent Hill F and UMDC.

This game runs in a web browser, making it playable on PC, tablets, and smartphones via modern browsers like Firefox or Chrome. You can play it at the official website. The game is available in English, Japanese, and Chinese.

Silent Hill F x Urban Myth Dissolution Center - Hinako and Azami characters

Story

In this mini-game, players take on the role of Hinako Shimizu, the protagonist of Silent Hill F.

While trying to escape monsters and an ominous fog, Hinako runs into a local school building. There, she meets a mysterious girl named Azami Fukurai (a character from "UMDC").

Azami reveals that the school is linked to chilling urban legends. Rumor has it that a "Slit-Mouthed Woman" haunts the premises, killing people with a knife.

Now, Hinako and Azami must join forces to unravel the school's mystery and discover what actually happened there.

Gameplay

The game utilizes the same mechanics and features the same "retro-pixel" art style as "Urban Myth Dissolution Center". In terms of gameplay, it is a visual novel with some light 2D adventure game elements.

It is a very short experience, taking about 30 minutes to complete.

Approximately 85% of the playtime is dedicated to character dialogue and "interactive mystery-solving" sequences, where the player must answer questions correctly and piece together a theory regarding the events at the school.

For the remaining 15% of the time, you can wander around the school using a point-and-click interface reminiscent of Clock Tower 1. But unlike CT, this game is not an actual survival horror, and our heroine can't really be killed here.

My impressions

Essentially, the game is a short parody of the abandoned school sequence from Silent Hill F.

It isn't scary and makes no attempt to frighten the player, so don't go in expecting a horror experience. However, as a parody, it turned out to be quite amusing and charming. I also enjoyed the bizarre explanation the developers came up with for the presence of monsters in Ebisugaoka's school.

The game's main drawback is its gameplay. The adventure game mechanics are very primitive—even by the standards of free browser games. The locations are tiny, the game is linear, and there is only one ending. I wish there were a bit more substance to the gameplay.

It is also worth noting that the game might seem confusing for players who have only finished Silent Hill F but haven't played Urban Myth Dissolution Center. They won't recognize the characters from the latter title, nor will they understand certain jokes and references. Therefore, I recommend to play UMDC first (or try its free demo version).

Conclusion

Of course, you shouldn't expect much from a free browser game - It is very short, ultra-low-budget, and offers almost no actual gameplay.

But despite all that, it’s quite charming and amusing. And it puts a creative spin on the school sequence from Silent Hill F. All in all, the game leaves a positive impression, and it will be a nice treat for those who like SHF and UMDC.

The game’s concept is quite cool, too. It would be interesting to see videogame developers collaborate like this more often and release cute mini-games featuring characters from various Japanese horror games.
