If the goal of the kidnappers was to get hold of the grimoire Sakuri found, they must have some interest or connection to the occult (they might even know about Ritz being imprisoned in the alternate dimension - were they planning to perform the ritual?). So 237 could be hinting at abduction by people with some vague connection to the occult, and only reveal the cult in the second game.

It's one of the possibilites.

But still we can't be 100% sure that Sakuri's father was really abducted. Maybe he just left the family for some reason. Or commited suicide because of some problems. Or tried to perform the ritual and entered the Labyrinth before Sakuri.

(and if we go with "father also entered the labyrinth" theory - then what if Executioner's body was actually the body of Sakuri's Father? That would be quite a shocking plot twist)

And even if father was really abducted by someone - we don't truly know, what the motive of abductors was. He could have been abducted by some yakuza thugs because of his business, for example.

I like the "cult abduction" theory, but this part of the story is just so vague that we need to keep in mind that there could be a lot of possible interpretations.

It's really strange that the author left this issue with Sakuri's father so vague.

Some of the hints could imply police or private investigation procedures. Looking at the suspect's trashbags for personal information, parking a car outside his house to monitor when he is heading out, finally breaking into his house taking him for interrogation. And this is reminiscent of the plot of the second game, which begins with the leading character being kidnapped by Cult members; the same people could be responsible for both disappearances. In Xenophobia the shadow figures make a reappearence as well, so further connections between the two games are not entirely unlikely.

Yes, the "cult abduction" theory is quite possible. It could have happened like that:

1) A week ago Sakuri's father aquired some valuable items (including a sacred book), and was carrying them to his house in the black bag.

2) 1 day ago cult members in the white wagon came because they wanted the book.

3) But somehow they didn't found the book, so they abducted Sakuri's father. Then Sakuri found the hidden book and used it.

The only problem with this theory is that cult is never mentioned anywhere in Demonophobia. If the author really wanted to hint at the abduction by cult - he would've probably mentioned the cult somewhere in Demonophobia.
